Favourite Foodie Trends of 2016

London is a city of continually changing trends. Our in house caterer, H+J are always at the forefront of the trends in the food business bringing these exciting trends to 41 Portland Place. We chose our favourite food trends that we brought into our repertoire at 41 Portland Place in 2016!

Breakfast for Lunch

What is it about breakfast that has crept its way into our entire day? Forget brunch – one key trend this year that we saw even make its way into our everyday conferences and meetings, was general breakfast options being chosen for lunch. Our healthy Day Delegate Rate was also popular this year with our breakfast muffins and muesli pots being requested for afternoon breaks.

Earlier in the year, we created a menu to satisfy this increasing trend with our new additions of the Cranberry, Goji Berry & Mixed Nut Granola, Banana & Coconut Smoothie, Baked Eggs With Cumin & Coriander and Orange & Carrot Mini Muffins. Both healthy and delicious, it’s no wonder they were event favourites!

Disguised Food

Always looking for something different and out of the ordinary, Londoners love something that’s not quite what it seems. It is no different when it comes to our food. The thought that something extra special should always be surprising our guests’ means our chef is constantly thinking up something new to create a ‘wow’.

Chef Jool’s came up with some incredible canapés to turn heads. Delicious crab & green gelatine made to look like a crab apple (not JUST a play on words there!) and tomato & goat’s cheese made to look like a cherry tomato were instant hits at our event’s receptions this year.

Colour

Colour blocking and creating a full meal based around one specific colour was another exciting trend that we were very excited to bring into events at 41 Portland Place.  At our Eat The Rainbow Showcase that we held earlier in the year, big splashes of colour were created for the starter (bright yellow) and main course (purple) allowing our guests to ‘eat the rainbow’. Our favourite was the stunning yellow starter of burrata, roasted yellow pepper, endive, pickled yellow carrots & beets, cispy carrot & pepper jus- delicious!  The dessert was the new H+J Pudding Wall which consisted of every colour of the rainbow.
