An afternoon fit for a Princess!

The Academy of Medical Sciences at 41 Portland Place was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal on 31 March 2011.  HRH was given a tour of our conference venue during which she was introduced to some of the design and construction team responsible for the refurbishment of our meeting rooms. Over 200 Fellows and guests attended the event and were served a sparkling afternoon tea with a mouth watering selection of tea sandwiches and cakes prepared by Chef Will Carvalho. Particularly popular with the guests were the homemade scones and clotted cream, chocolate éclairs, lemon cake and mini Victoria sponge cakes. After The Princess Royal departed guests enjoyed the glorious afternoon sun on the terrace and although many tried, the lure of one more delicious cake was just too tempting…

HRH The Princess Royal was admitted as the first Royal Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences on 21st November 2013 in recognition of The Princess’s distinguished service to medical science and its applications, and the benefits she has brought to healthcare and to patients.
